Victorian Memento Mori Coffin Box clocks finely clothed in a robeDATE: Victorian, c. 1880 Weird and most unusual antique wooden coffin box it's initial purpose: unknown. It's beautifully made, with snap closure and little metal knob on the lid, and the inside is covered in some sort of thick black substance. Possibly tar, suggesting it could have been made by a sailor tar being a go to substance for a variety of 19th century nautical applications.
